Roberto Luna, Psy D. (La Jolla)

(He/Him/His) Licensed psychologist specializing in individual therapy

Dr. Luna is a first-generation college graduate, who obtained a bachelor’s degree in Continental Philosophy at DePaul University in Chicago. He was inspired to pursue a career as a therapist and earned a doctorate in an APA-accredited Psy.D program in Clinical Psychology from Adler University in Chicago. He completed his postdoctoral residency at the University of California San Diego Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), where he is currently a staff psychologist. Dr. Luna has comprehensive generalist training experiences in hospital settings, inpatient and outpatient psychiatric hospitals, community mental health clinics, private practice, and college counseling centers. He has worked with multicultural populations, experiencing a wide range of presenting problems, different levels of severity of symptomatology, and co-occurring diagnoses.

Dr. Luna works from a relational model informed by contemporary psychodynamic theory, social constructivist theory, feminist theory, and cognitive behavioral approaches within a multicultural framework. Dr. Luna is committed to providing culturally sensitive treatment to underserved individuals from different levels of socio-economic status as well as ethnic and cultural minorities.

In his sessions, he creates a safe and welcoming space, where you are encouraged to share, explore, challenge, and deconstruct the issues that might be disrupting your life. Dr. Luna works collaboratively to gain insight into your presenting concerns, promote adaptive changes, reduce symptoms, improve work or academic performance and strengthen interpersonal relationships.

Dr. Luna identifies as bicultural and bilingual, which has provided him with insight into multicultural identity development and issues with acculturation. He can provide therapy in English & Spanish. Focusing on the immigrant community, Dr. Luna is aware of how acculturation, generational status, and language can affect mental health, substance use, and physical health. To determine if working with Dr. Luna would be a good fit, you are invited to contact him for a free, brief phone consultation.

I am an in-network therapist for Cigna, Lyra, MHN, and Aetna.
