Sophie Bryan, Ph.D. (La Jolla)

(She/Her/Hers) Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Hi! My name is Dr. Sophie Bryan, and I am a licensed clinical psychologist in La Jolla, California. I have over 12 years of experience helping adults change their relationship with stress and live more meaningful and enriching lives. I work with individuals who are navigating significant transitions in their lives, careers, academics, and health. My practice takes an integrative and holistic approach to treatment, where I incorporate mind-body interventions (Mindfulness, Biofeedback) with values-based therapeutic techniques. My specialties include anxiety, stress management, sport-performance enhancement, grief and loss, disordered eating, as well as behavioral health concerns, including migraine headaches, panic attacks, GI disorders, HIV/AIDS, chronic pain, psychological adjustment to injury, and overall wellness.

Choosing a therapist in San Diego isn’t easy, and treatment isn’t always a one-size-fits-all. I value collaboration and flexibility in my practice, where I work closely with clients to customize their treatment. I view every client through a holistic lens where I consider each individual’s biological, psychological, and social needs within the context of their lives and emphasize the importance of healing within one’s value system. I am client-centered, integrative, and draw on multiple evidenced-based theories (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and systems theory) to tailor interventions to my client’s unique circumstances. Additionally, I incorporate non-invasive Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Biofeedback where appropriate. Biofeedback is a mind-body technique where individuals learn to control bodily processes that are normally involuntary (e.g., muscle tension, blood pressure, heart rate, perspiration, breathing, muscle tension). By learning to control these functions, you may reduce stress and panic attacks, relieve migraine headaches, and improve your mental and physical performance.

I have a doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology – San Diego with an emphasis on health psychology and a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Loyola Marymount University with a concentration in art therapy. I became a registered art therapist in 2007 and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in 2009. I have worked with a wide range of children, adolescents, couples, adults, and seniors. My professional experience was obtained working in college counseling centers, chronic pain clinics, residential eating disorder facilities, chemical dependency programs, inpatient hospitals, and several outpatient mental health agencies.
