Maddy Coronado, Psy.D. (Hillcrest)

(She/Her/Hers) Psychological Associate supervised by Dr. Shannon Franklin

Hi there! I am Dr. Maddy Coronado, a postdoctoral therapist in San Diego at Hillcrest Psychological Associates (Registered Psychological Associate 94028305) supervised by Shannon Franklin, Psy.D. (CA Licensed Psychologist PSY29421).  I specialize in treating individuals, of all ages, who are experiencing depression, anxiety, relational concerns, self-esteem difficulties, and family of origin concerns. I have a robust experience in working with people who experienced childhood sibling abuse, previous emotional abuse in romantic relationships, and with college-aged adults navigating life transitions and stressors. As a San Diego therapist, I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective counseling to all populations. Before joining Hillcrest Psychological Associates, I worked at community and university counseling centers, with a clinical focus on individuals who identify as Latino/a as well as individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community.

As a therapist, I employ a person-centered approach, which prioritizes creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients feel heard and understood. I actively work from a schema therapy lens, which combines cognitive-behavioral techniques, attachment theory, and emotion-focused strategies to address deeply rooted patterns of thinking and behavior. These patterns, known as schemas, often originate in childhood and can profoundly affect your emotional well-being and relationships. My practice focuses on helping you identify and understand these maladaptive schemas, guiding you through emotional experiences, and fostering healthier coping mechanisms.

As a clinician committed to holistic and individualized care, I often tailor my approach to what my client needs and encourage a collaborative dynamic within the therapeutic space. My practice is informed by a deep understanding of the cultural and social dynamics that affect my diverse clientele, ensuring that each therapy session is tailored to the unique needs of the individual. My overall goal is to empower my clients to achieve personal growth, identify resilience, and increase emotional well-being.

If you are ready to take the first step towards your healing and book an appointment with me, it would be an honor to walk alongside you on your journey. Let’s work together to create meaningful change in your life.

I am an in-network therapist for Cigna, Aetna and Anthem Blue Cross in San Diego.
