Experiencing trauma can take many forms, and include events such as childhood neglect, sexual trauma, bullying, racism or homophobia, witnessing violence in military combat, and beyond. In the aftermath of a traumatic event(s), our brains are not able to process the experience in the same way as a normal memory. Sometimes, this can lead to overwhelming feelings and emotions, such as flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive thoughts/memories, agitation, anxiety and/or a tendency to avoid things that remind you of the trauma. Our trauma-focused therapists will help you reestablish a sense of safety and re-orient you to life in the present moment. We utilize a variety of approaches to treating trauma, including EMDR, Exposure Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Therapy.
