Grief & Loss

Grief and loss encompass a wide range of human experiences, including the death of a loved one or pet, divorce, loss of a job, trauma, or deterioration of health. Following a loss, it is natural to experience grief and mourning. Often, these emotions may feel very overwhelming and the person grieving can feel quite alone. Therapy can cultivate a safe space for emotional healing and self-compassion.

At Hillcrest Psychological Associates, our therapists recognize that each person and culture express grief differently. We respect the wisdom that you bring to therapy and will tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs. Our goal is to guide you through the stages of grief. We will process feelings of anger, resentment, depression, denial, remorse, and deep sadness. Through the healing journey, our therapists will teach you relaxation and mindfulness techniques to help you find peace in the present. We will provide you with tools to readjust to life and foster acceptance.

Our team encourages you to schedule an appointment if you believe that you could benefit from grief counseling. We are here to help you reestablish connections with others and adapt to a new way of life—one that feels meaningful and restorative.

We are in-network psychologists in San Diego for Cigna and Anthem Blue Cross.

As the news surrounding COVID-19 evolves, the main priorities of Hillcrest Psychological Associates remain the same, to provide a space where our clients are supported on their journey to self-fulfillment and healthy relationships.

For the health & safety of our clients and staff, all psychotherapy sessions at will be held exclusively online through a HIPAA compliant telehealth or video session portal that is encrypted and secure, until further notice. We will be doing initial appointments via telehealth. We will move to face-to-face sessions when it is deemed safe.
