Welcome! I am so glad that your search for a therapist in San Diego has led you here. My name is Dr. Lauren Fournier and I am a postdoctoral therapist in La Jolla (Psychological Associate, PSB94028549, supervised by Dr. Danielle Hanley PSY33351) with Hillcrest Psychological Associates.

People often come to me when they find their lives have become unmanageable or their closest relationships are suffering and they aren’t sure why. It’s normal to not know exactly what is causing your distress. I can help you understand and address the root causes of the challenges you are facing.

I consider myself to be a generalist therapist, meaning that I am trained to work with clients who have many different types of concerns. Whether you are experiencing difficulties with anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, substance use, or in your relationships, I am equipped to help you. However, I do have additional specialized training in providing treatment for PTSD, anger, aggression, and difficulties controlling emotions and behaviors. I have substantial training in managing crises and am confident that we can weather the storm together.

My approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I understand the importance of being flexible and tailoring treatments to meet each individual person’s needs and goals. I am transparent with my clients about treatment plans and believe therapy should be a collaborative process. Together, we will develop and refine a plan to help you reach your goals.

I strive to be a non-judgmental, genuine, and curious therapist. Therapy can be intimidating at first–I aim to create an environment where all feel safe to be entirely themselves. At the same time, I am comfortable being direct and holding my clients accountable, when needed. Lastly, I believe that humor has a place in therapy! I enjoy a good joke and I hope to make you laugh, too.
