(She/Her/Hers) Psychological Associate Supervised by Danielle Hanley, PsyD PSY33351

Welcome! I am Dr. Samantha Burnside, a postdoctoral therapist in San Diego at Hillcrest Psychological Associates (Registered Psychological Associate 94028934) supervised by Danielle Hanley, Psy.D. (CA Licensed Psychologist PSY33351). I’m a therapist in San Diego who believes that therapy means you can show up exactly as you are and have a real, honest conversation. I work with teens, college students, and adults navigating depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I have a special interest in working with college students and young adults navigating identity, independence, and self-worth. My style is collaborative as I believe you are the expert on your life and together, we explore what is going well, what’s not, and how to create actionable changes you want.

As a San Diego-based clinician, I utilize evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, ACT, and attachment theory but I don’t just apply techniques, I help you feel seen and heard through genuine curiosity, warmth, and care. I’ve worked in psychiatric hospitals, university counseling centers, and community-based programs, which has given me a strong foundation in figuring out what will work specifically for you, not just what works in general. I dedicate myself to blending clinical insight with a calm, grounded presence to help you get out of your head, clarify what matters most, and reconnect with the strengths you possess.

Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time with family, exploring all that San Diego has to offer, and taking walks with my two pugs. I recognize that starting therapy can feel vulnerable, and it takes courage to show up and explore what is happening in your life. I aim to make that process feel supportive and respectful, and I believe therapy can be a meaningful space for clarity, growth, and lasting change.

I am an in-network therapist for Cigna, Aetna and Anthem Blue Cross.
