Licensed Psychologist
Hi, I’m Dr. Gaurie Mittal, a licensed clinical psychologist providing in-person and telehealth therapy in Berkeley and throughout the Bay Area. My belief is that you are an expert on your own life. My role is to support and guide you toward greater self-understanding, self-acceptance, and empowerment, so that you can make choices that feel aligned and meaningful to you. I specialize in working with college students and young adults, as well as BIPOC individuals navigating anxiety, depression, academic stress, relationship challenges, and cultural identity exploration. I strive to create a space where you feel genuinely seen, heard and understood – where all parts of your identity are welcomed and valued.
As a Berkeley-based Indian-American therapist, my work is grounded in cultural humility, compassion, and evidence-based care. I take an integrative approach, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), relational psychodynamic therapy, and multicultural frameworks. Together, we’ll build practical tools to help you cope in the present, while also exploring how your personal history, relationships, and cultural context shape current patterns and experiences. I view therapy as a collaborative process – one where we work together to create a therapeutic space and treatment plan that supports your growth, healing and positive change.
Prior to joining Hillcrest Psychological Associates, I received extensive training across a range of settings, including high schools, community mental health centers, college counseling centers, and group private practice. These experiences have equipped me to work with diverse populations and presenting concerns, meeting each person where they’re at.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and exploring all that Berkeley, San Francisco and the greater Bay Area have to offer. I recognize that starting therapy can be intimidating and vulnerable. My goal is to make that first step feel more approachable by creating a space where you can show up as you are—so that meaningful, lasting change becomes possible. If this resonates with you, I’d love to connect and explore how I can best support you. Please contact us to book an appointment today!
I am an in-network therapist for Cigna, Aetna, Blue Shield of CA, Anthem Blue Cross and Health Net in Berkeley and the larger Bay Area.
