Postdoctoral Psychological Associate under the supervision of Roberto Luna, PhD (PSY29183)
Hello! ¡Hola! My name is Dr. Mendoza Estrada. I am a postdoctoral therapist in San Diego at Hillcrest Psychological Associates (Registered Psychological Associate 94029865), under the supervision of Dr. Roberto Luna. I provide bilingual therapeutic services in English and Spanish at our La Jolla office in San Diego.
I recognize that seeking therapy can be a difficult and vulnerable step, particularly if it is your first time reaching out for support. I deeply value the courage it takes to begin this process, and I strive to meet each person where they are. My approach is integrative and considers the whole person, including the biological, psychological, and social factors that shape our experiences. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, and I work to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where we can tailor treatment to your unique needs, challenges, strengths, and goals.
My diverse clinical training has provided me with experience working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, including marginalized communities. These experiences have reinforced my commitment to providing culturally sensitive and trauma-informed care. I aim to cultivate a therapeutic relationship grounded in empathy, trust, respect, and open communication. I have a particular interest in supporting adults of all ages as they navigate life transitions, grief and loss, addiction, depression, trauma, chronic pain and health conditions, and other challenges. I also enjoy working with veterans, college students, athletes, and performers.
As a Latina and first-generation Mexican-American clinician in San Diego, I value the opportunity to advocate for individuals and communities and to help clients discover and strengthen their voices. My interest in psychology, sociology, and biology has shaped the way I understand the complexity of human experiences and the importance of considering the many factors that influence our well-being. Throughout my training, I have had the opportunity to work in community mental health settings, hospitals, private practice, and prison settings. Whether through clinical work, advocacy, or research, I strive to integrate my love of learning with meaningful community engagement and to use my clinical voice to create a positive impact.
Outside of providing therapeutic services, I enjoy spending time with family, trying new foods, and staying active through outdoor activities such as walking, hiking, and soccer.
I recognize the courage it can take to seek support, and I commend you for taking that step. I welcome the opportunity to collaboratively create a safe and supportive space where we can work together to better understand and navigate the challenges you are facing.
