(She/Her/Hers) Psychological Associate Supervised by Karen Z Hyland, PhD PSY 17839

Dr. Cabey is a postdoctoral San Diego Therapist (Psychological Associate, PSB94026719 supervised by Karen Z Hyland, PhD PSY 17839) at Hillcrest Psychological Associates who specializes in individual therapy working with adults and older-aged individuals. She treats a wide range of disorders such as anxiety and depressive disorders in addition to adjustment disorders, grief and trauma. Dr. Cabey recently completed her postdoctoral training at a psychiatric hospital in La Mesa, California and is also interested in serving BIPOC, Caribbean, African, and African American populations that are underserved and marginalized and are seeking quality mental health services.

Dr. Cabey utilizes a variety of different therapeutic treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rogerian Therapy, Person Centered Therapy and African Holistic Therapy. Dr. Cabey was trained also to utilize Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), working at a children’s resource facility with child abuse and neglect by implementing prevention, intervention and advocacy efforts in Warner Robins, GA. She also trained in Choice Theory at a practice that specialized in Choice Theory in Macon, GA. Choice Theory believes that all human behavior is chosen and driven by five basic needs: survival, love and belonging, power, freedom and fun. The goal with this approach is to help people take responsibility for their own actions and thoughts and to improve their relationships with others.

Dr. Cabey understands that it is vital to create an inviting and warm therapeutic environment that will allow clients to better connect with themselves. Dr. Cabey takes a holistic approach to treatment, which allows her to be open to listening to the core issues of each person and work collaboratively, helping to guide them through their problems. Dr. Cabey does not believe that there is a one-size-fits-all approach to psychotherapy. She believes that each person is doing the best they can do and will eventually find the solution to their problems with guidance.

She is in-network with Aetna, Cigna, and Anthem Blue Cross in San Diego at this time.
