Robin Beltran, Ph.D. (Santa Cruz)
(She/Her/Hers) Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Robin Beltran is a licensed clinical psychologist with 20 years experience helping adolescents, adults and couples decrease their emotional distress and find a better quality of life. Dr. Beltran specializes in the treatment of anxiety, depression, relationship issues, life change adjustment, and stress management. While each person’s therapy process is unique, Dr. Beltran commonly uses a multi-layered treatment approach to collaboratively discover the client’s strengths, identify the contributing factors to the problem, and create a set of strategies and skills to help each person move forward toward better emotional, spiritual, physical and mental health.
This multidisciplinary approach incorporates the use of behavioral techniques and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as well as the development of mindfulness using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Beltran is a board-certified biofeedback therapist, and uses this tool to help individuals improve emotional regulation and have better control over the physical effects of stress. She is an advocate of holistic care using a biopsychosocial approach, which takes into consideration all the physical, emotional and environmental influences on health with a focus treating the whole person, mind and body together.
Due to her specialized training in Health Psychology, Dr. Beltran has worked extensively with patients who have medical problems which include migraine headaches, chronic pain, GI disorders, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, and HIV/AIDS. For patients who would like to improve their psychological or medical symptoms without the use of medication, Dr. Beltran can provide guidance and collaborate with medical providers to facilitate the decrease or discontinuation of medications and identify behavioral alternatives to promote symptom reduction using lifestyle change.
Dr. Beltran has enjoyed working with an eclectic group of clients from a wide variety of cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. She has worked extensively with both undergraduate and graduate students and is able to effectively provide support to help students cope with the school-related challenges that impact their relationships, their health and their lives. Dr. Beltran is an ally with experience providing group, individual and couples therapy to individuals in the LGBTQ+ community. This experience allows her to have a compassionate understanding of the types of challenges faced by marginalized individuals in today’s evolving social environment. That being said, she finds it most important to understand each person’s individual experience from their own unique perspective in order to fully support their journey back to health. Listening with the heart is the first step in beginning this journey together, and Dr. Beltran is honored to join clients in taking this step as they move forward toward a happier, healthier life.
